Our skin the largest organ of the body, is the best barrier from the outside world. It protects us from unwanted bacteria and infection.

The skin care industry is a trillion dollar business that gives us advice a myriad of things. How to 'reduce' wrinkles, how to minimize the appearance of cellulite, how to diminish dark circles under the eyes, etc.....

II can see life taking it's toll on my face. I have good genes that stave off wrinkles, but I can see them. They are forming. I must admit, I am very vain. The idea of aging before my time pisses me off. Then again, I stayed out in the sun just a little bit too much this summer with sun screen, thankfully I use Redbud Body Care products that nurture and repair my skin.

We all do things that contribute to the aging process. In my research I've learned a great deal about what's out on the mass market and how it affects not just our skin, but the environment. It spurs me to make more products. So, what can we do to take the burden off of our largest organ and the environment? Get back to basics.

The basics of how to clean the skin, tone it and moisturize it. I've read books by dermatologists have written along with some of the leading experts in 'natural products'. There are similarities in their advice and huge discrepancies.

The Basics still hold true:
- Get rest

- Eat well - whole foods- grains, dark green leafy vegetables - minimize meat intake

- Spend time in Nature - it's a great source of stress relief and renewal time

- Drink filtered water - filters you can attach to your sink are pretty inexpensive these days

- Eat locally & organically (sometimes this is hard one, but farmers markets are a great source of locally grown food

- Stay out of the hot sun - we need sun for Vitamin D production, but we don't need to fry our skin

- Wear SPF - this is a very interesting topic one that deserves an entire blog

- Use food grade oils on your skin

- Minimize the usage of soaps that sud, sufracant's dry out the acid mantle of your skin - which is your skins immune system

- Buy good mineral make up if you are going to use it - Check out this link
